Greg Lauren & the Gee's Bend Quilters: Wearable Americana

In a celebration of slow fashion and American craft, Greg Lauren’s latest collection honors the legacy of the Gee’s Bend Quilters from Alabama, a community whose breathtaking quilts have only recently received widespread recognition. Lauren collaborated with the quilters, sending them his Scrapwork fabric, which they hand-stitched into quilted panels. These unique works were then transformed by Lauren's team into one-of-a-kind garments like puffy jackets and shawl-collar shirts, blending the quilters' artistry with Lauren’s signature style.

The collection, titled Mosaic, was showcased at Bergdorf Goodman, with each piece signed by the participating quilters, their names and stories literally sewn into the garments. All profits from the collection are directed back to the Gee’s Bend community, ensuring their cultural and artistic contributions are both celebrated and supported.

Greg Lauren aims to elevate the art of quilting, pushing it beyond the realms of "folk" art and into the spotlight as a true form of wearable art, much like his contemporaries in the fashion world.
